<lj:music>Nothing</lj:music>

I had four mock exams this week, which was pretty horrific. I have one more next week, then Friday is our last day! It's a half day, and if I'm not mistaken there may be some kind of Pizza Hut excursion being planned with a small group of my aquaintances, so I'm kind of looking forward to that to be honest. The last thing I went and out and did with a group of friends was seeing Dorian Gray in September. Ugh, my life sounds bleak when you put it that way.

Anyway, the point is, I decided not to do any work yesterday, and relax, so I fiddled about in Photoshop and came up with a very small picspam of the prettiest pictures I've taken over the past month or so:

Thank you Channel 4's 3D week and Sainsbury's (I really enjoyed their 3D week btw. The Queen in 3D was awesome :B)

CHRISTMASSY!

Becaue bulbs can be deceptively pretty (and I was at a garden centre, okay?)

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BE WARY WHEN THERE'S HOSEPIPES AROUND

I actually took this one on my birthday, during the small picnic we had at college. Who knew that Cadbury's purple was so gorgeous?

That's my bbs: Blossom is the albino rabbit, and Tikka is the guinea-pig (also below)

And I shall leave you with Tikka, who was feeling paticularly photogenic on Thursday (and posed like a well-behaved doll. Blossom was less co-operative, but the less said about that the better).

Again, I fail at Livejournal.

The funny thing is that I am on LJ every day, just not on my journal. Mostly browsing my flist, communities and lurking horribly. Anyway, this is just a post to say that I am okay and everything, just busy. I have exams in January, so I'm just working through and am about to start revision for all of them. I have just two weeks left before Christmas break, so I am looking forward to that. I'll probably be around more then.

My birthday was really nice, so thanks to everybody who wished me well :D

And one cool thing, before I go: Merlin: Secrets and Lies for 2.10. After the title sequence, they play a really short clip from the Expo, and me and my friend, D, are in the crowd, in the second row, shouting "WE LOVE MERLIN." It was pretty surreal actually, because I was just working whilst watching it, not fully concentrating on either, and I was suddenly like "what's D doing on my TV?" So I paused and rewound a couple of times to watch us squeeing and waving. It now officially counts that Merlin got us on TV, and we shall be forever immortalised in it. AWESOME \o/

Of course, the thing most people seem to be posting about: Doctor Who.

I found it incredible from the off. I thought it was a beautiful episode, thekind that really makes me want to make icons or do a picspam, but of course there's no way I could find time for that. Anyway, it's always interesting to see the Doctor without a companion (although I know that's hardly new for Ten now), and how he handles people. I thought Lindsay Duncan was especially impressive, and I really like Adelaide's back storyline. I don't know, there was just something about this episode that has made it perhaps one of my favourites. I felt kind of heartbroken the whole way through, knowing how it was going to end (for the crew, and for Ten), and the ending was kind of mindblowing. Adelaide's suicide was shocking and kind of brutal, but it felt right, and made the Doctor realise what he'd done. It's weird how much of a catalyst she's been for the Doctor's actions this episode. Anyway, I'm quite surprised this hasn't descended into capslock, because during the episode I was a mess of excitement and shouting at the TV.

To summarise, I LOVE THIS SHOW and ROLL ON CHRISTMAS. ♥

Sorry I've been so quite the past few days; I've had a barrage of tests and practical assessments (including one tomorrow, ugh), and have been trying to get to bed as quickly as possible, which sadly limits my internet use. But I think the sleep is worth it. ME + SLEEP = OTP at the minute, for srs.

Also, slighly off topic, but relevant to my interests: I was searching YouTube for videos from the Merlin panel at last month's Expo, and I came across this little gem (which may or may not embed properly, but it's up here anyway):

<lj-embed id="7" />
You can actually hear my question at 07:40 (I'm the "young lady at the front" lol), so now I have me speaking to Angel Coubly, Katie McGrath and Johnny Capps preserved for all eternity on the internet. It's quite strange that my voice is now on YouTube, but I'm happy and don't care :D

Oh, and last but not least: my birthday is tomorrow, which is kind of kickass, and kind of a downer, but I shall just see how it rolls. So this is me saying goodbye old age, and HELLO NEW SPARKLY AGE on my journal. My third birthday on LJ *pulls party popper*

    <lj:music>Dangerous (the song) - Michael Jackson</lj:music>

For some reason, checking my flist today made me really happy and feel sort of cosy. I don't know why, but it was nice. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

But first up: AN EPIC HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO WISH starsburn for tomorrow. Best wishes bb. I hope that you have a great day, and that nice sparkly things happen to you ♥♥
I spent today learning about and making notes on various sorting algorithms, which is pretty insufferable after a while, but I was able to endure thanks to Merlin. I loved this episode; it was rich with angst and horrible situations that needed plans to get out of, which is always good really. Plus, lots of characters were involved (although more Morgana pls) instead of being ignored, which gets annoying.

Anyway, the real reason for this post is a meme (oh, how I have missed memes!) from appleindecay:

Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile."
- I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity.
- Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
- Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.
---

1. What was the last book you read aloud (well, a part of it anyway)? :D
LOL, this is to do with a conversation we were having about reading characters' voices aloud and doing the voices in your head (if that makes sense). I guess it would have to be To Kill A Mockingbird which I re-read at the start of the summer. I tried to sustain a southern accent to make it more interesting, because I was reading it for my literature exam (that totally worked btw, because the exam went weeeeeellll).

2. What do you prefer lenses or glasses and why?
At the minute, glasses all the way. I did get my lenses (after various complications), as I mentioned over here. I actually scratched my left eye on Wednesday putting them in. It actually took me a full hour to put both of them in, but my left eye was bothering me, and now I can only conclude that I scratched it, because it still feels like there's something in it, and has since Wednesday. I tried my lenses again today, and although got them in quickly, they make my eyes sort of ache. I can feel them in there, and apparently, that's not right. BUT I SHALL PERSERVERE. I am determined to sort the whole thing out.

3. What's your favorite Michael Jackson-Song?
Ohhhhh, this is such a hard question, it really is. It is impossible for me to answer with just one song, so I'll have to list my favourites: Stranger in Moscow, Heaven Can Wait, Just Good Friends, Leave Me Alone, Dirty Diana, Wanna Be Startin' Something, Speechless, Scream, Break of Dawn, and ohhh, the list goes on. And it's hard to narrow it down to just them. IDK, my favourites alter depend on what I'm listening to.

4. If you had to decide, what is your favorite quote and why?
God, this is another equally difficult question! My favourite comedic quote changes on a daily basis (at the moment it's "if he's so smart, how come he's dead?" from The Simpsons, episode 11.03. It makes no sense without having seen the episode, but it's hilarious in the correct context XD). But three of my favourite quotes from literature are:

"You think you are better and more fortunate than I; in full health and strength; you are sorry for me - very soon that will be altered. I shall be sorry for you. I shall be incomporably beyond and above you all." Catherine, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte; because it's my favourite book, and I guess it's how I choose to view death. I'm not sure I believe in an afterlife, but there's something beautiful about those we love being above and beyond us in death

"What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from." Little Gidding, by TS Eliot; I love how circular this quote is, and true when you think about it. Quotes fromTS Eliot are always poignant

"But disguise of every sort is my abhorrence." Darcy, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I don't know, this is just a quote that struck me when I read P&P and I've remembered it ever since. It's the sort of thing I'd like to slip into conversation with somebody, because quoting in RL is AWESOME

Yes, I put a lot of thought into that question.

5. What's your favorite "Batman"-moment?
If it's from the graphic novels I've read, I can't really remember (my poor graphic novels are so neglected these days), but from the movies (all of them that is), I'd say basically every scene Michelle Pfieffer's Catwoman is in, being fierce, in Batman Returns. The scene where her and Batman are fighting on the rooftops (why is that such a common feature of superhero films?), and she's saying awesome things like "life's a bitch, and so am I." Batman Begins has so many great moments as well (basically everything with Bruce Wayne being himself and a Playboy millionaire) and don't even get me started on The Dark Knight: ALL OF IT.

Mmmm, that took a long time, but kudos to appleindecay for the questions, because they were really good! Comment like the meme says if you want questions, and I shall happily oblige :D

It's late, and my comms aren't going to browse themselves, so GOOD NIGHT TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!

(I finally get to break out my ever-so-appropriate Nightmare Before Christmas icon)

I hope you all have a great end of October, whether you celebrate it or not :D

I'm going on a Hallowe'en walk thing in the woods at Beacon Hill (same place as last year), which is always pretty fun. I have an actual black cloak now (it's always been a dream of mine to obtain a cloak) so I guess I'll be wearing that and claiming I'm a witch. Should be good.

My brother's also coming home, and me, him and my parents are going to see Michael Jackson's This Is It in the evening. I'm pretty excited about it (that's a mild understatement), and I have no idea what I'm going to think of it, so we shall see...

And main thing: tomorrow (or rather, today) I'm finally getting contact lenses! I've had glasses since I was about 10, and I've been wanting contacts for a while now, and my trial run will be at noon. It's a little surreal since I'm used to seeing my frames 100% of the time. Not that I don't love them, because I do, but a change is always nice. Plus everyone I know is of course accustomed to me with glasses so I may disorientate a few people. It should be fun freaking people out on Monday ;)

Anyway, it's late enough as it now, so goodnight~

    <lj:music>Bad (the album) - Michael Jackson</lj:music>

I got back from London yesterday around 21:00, and I am still tired and achey and pretty blah overall. Waking up early today didn't help, but what can you do? Aside from my grumblings, I spent most of the day with my mind drifting off to think about the EPIC that was the weekend's convention. Let the pictures do the talking (oh, and of course my lengthy, lengthy commentary :B).

First day: Saturday 24th

Well, getting there was kinda hellish. I couldn't sleep the night before, and had to wake up at 4:45am, so the morning was a bit of a blur of whatdoesthishourexist and yay!we'regoingtolondon. We got a bit horribly lost, but eventually D (aka lemon_jelly17) and I got dropped outside the ExCeL exhibition centre at about 9:30. We had early entry tickets (which a bit half wasted considering the time we got there) so we went off to join the queue.

Right to left: The ExCeL exhibition centre (from where we ate), inside the hall, inside the main stage area, exit sign, discarded FREE HUGS sign that I felt compelled to take a picture of

The mainly surprising thing was the amount of people cosplaying. I knew that people cosplayed at conventions, but this was my first convention, so I didn't know that that many did! Probably about 60-75% of people were dressed as something, although a lot of them were anime characters that I didn't recognise. It was really fun all weekend just watching people and discussing who they were cosplaying. The mainly hilarious thing that I had sort of heard of was the whole Free Hugs thing that people do. Basically, a lot of people have free hugs signs, that literally mean 'free hugs', so a lot of people were just randomly hugging strangers. It especially funny to watch when people are cosplaying, because you'll see things like The Joker hugging Princess Zelda and things :D It was awesome.

We went into the main stage section (mainly to rest our feet) and saw some panels, such as Tru Blood, Deep Space 9 and The Losers (a film coming out next year). We didn't really know of the people on those, but they were all really quite interesting.

Ghostbusters car!

I think it may have been the actual one from the movie, but I did see a totally different Ghostbusters car in August, so who knows? Well it was still awesome.

Right to left: Tom Baker (looking a tad confused), Craig Charles doing various things

D and I went to a little bit of a stalker mode when we found where Craig Charles was. And of course Tom Baker is a bonus! We kind of skulked around the area were for a while, and I tried (and mostly failed) to take some decent photographs discretely. I still can't really believe that Craig Charles was there because I've been watching him in Red Dwarf and Robot Wars since I can remember.

At around 17:00 we left and went back to our hotel room. Most of the evening was spent watching Merlin and Strictly Come Dancing, which was followed by another annoying bout of insomnia. I literally kept waking up every 20 minutes in the night, convinced that we were going to oversleep.

Second Day: Sunday 25th

We did not oversleep: we got up too early (not helped by the clock change), which didn't help tiredness. I got a little hopped up on excitement and general nervousness though, so I guess that's what provided me with the adrenaline for this weekend.

Right to left: queues for the Expo, Bunny and the Bull poster, empty main stage, Bunny and the Bull panel, Merlin panel

Despite getting there half an hour early this time, I feel sure that the queues were way longer for Sunday than Saturday. But even queueing's pretty fun at something like this, so I can't complain. As soon as we got in D and I rushed up to get tickets for the Merlin autograph panel (after accidentally queueing for the Warehouse 13 tickets for a while :|) then rushed out to get a bag of food. After that we literally went to sit in the main staging area (this time we were one row from the front) to wait for the two o'clock Merlin panel. There were some other interesting things (actually the Warehouse 13 cast were pretty funny), including Bunny and the Bull which is a film both of had actually been anticipating. The two main cast guys were there, as well as the producer Paul King, who also works on The Mighty Boosh.

It was sort of around then we started speaking to the two girls sitting next to us, who turned out to be from LJ (which was pretty freaking exciting for me, considering I've never met anyone from livejournal before). They were gnimaerdand shantirosa, and we all chatted a bit before the Merlin panel came out. Then the host announced Angel Coulby (Gwen), Katie McGrath (Morgana) and Johnny Capps (the producer) and it was pretty surreal.

My hands were shaking like crazy, so the pictures I got sucked. But it was just amazing hearing them answering questions and stuff, and just sort of being themselves. I actually managed to ask a question (I had been debating whether to do so all weekend) that was something like: Why is it that, out of the main cast, all of them only have one parent, or no parents, and is there a story behind what happened to Gwen and Morgana’s mothers?

Angel Coulby said something about being an actress she liked to think of a story behind her character, and that she saw it that Gwen's mother had died when she was young. Johnny Caps said something about character development and the chance to explore their families. He mentioned something about it coming up this series. I just sort of nodded dumbly. The acoustics were really bad though so a lot of stuff was hard to hear.

It's pretty hard to remember what was said, but I do remember that someone gave Katie a bag of jelly babies (she was like 'are you kidding?' and hugged the girl who gave them to her) and that Angel Coulby's favourite type of cheese is goat's cheese; Katie grimaced and said she doesn't like cheese at all.

There was a camera man from the Merlin Behind the Scenes DVD who filmed some of the panel and the crowd screaming 'We Love Merlin!' so that'll be interesting to see.

After the panel, D and I left and managed to hang around gnimaerdand shantirosawho helpfully led us to the autograph panel queue. Again, we got in the wrong line, and started queueing for Warehouse 13, until gnimaerd realised as much. The Merlin queue wasn't that long, but there was a bit of wait, so we all just talked, which was really interesting. Talking about LJ and fandom isn't something I do in RL (apart from with D) so it was strange but very good.

When we finally got to the panel we were given a promotional photograph to get signed. I met Johnny Caps first and he asked me if I'd been at the Q and A. I said yes, then blurted out that I asked the question about the character's families; he said something like it was a good question and then something about 'insightful' and 'character development.' I just smiled proudly like an idiot. After he signed his name, I spoke to Angel, who is totally gorgeous and looks quite different to how she appears on TV. She was really nice and I said something about liking Gwen's characterisation and she said 'thank you so much' and smiled very sweetly. I was going to ask her for a picture but then I was sure there wasn't time so I moved on. After she had signed her name, I met Katie (it was totally surreal when I looked over and saw D having a conversation with Katie. My brain couldn't really comprehend it. They were talking about stickers which was totally random).

Katie was so lovely! She signed her name and I babbled something about liking what she'd done with Morgana in the past two series. She replied with something like: 'Well that's really thanks to everyone else working on the show, so I can't take credit for that' or something equally humble. I was kind of just thinking OMGKatieMcGrath is talking to me. Then I said she was an inspiration (it's strange what your brain comes up with on the spot) and she said 'Aww, thank you so much!'. I actually worked up the courage to ask her for a photo, which I took, hoping that my hands weren't shaking. It actually came out really well, as you'll see:

After that I sort of garbled 'It was really lovely to meet you' and she said something I didn't quite hear. I bounded away with my signed sheet and spent the next few minutes pretty dazed. D and I walked out with gnimaerdand shantirosa, then we split ways because they had to catch their train.

Right to left: Leaving the exhibition centre (pretty sunlight was pretty), the train station just outside, the picture that pretty much summarises the general feeling of the weekend

We discussed at length how crazy the past hour had been as we waited to be picked up, and then got a little snap-happy with the camera. I have concluded that it was EPIC and that I really hope I can go to other conventions, and hopefully this one in May, or next October.

We actually dropped in at Cambridge on the way back home to see my brother, and he pretty much got the verbal rendition of this post. Then home and bed really. And that's the end of the recap (if you've actually made it all the way to the end of this ridiculously long recount, then congratulations :D).

Whew, this has taken waaaay longer than I had anticipated. But it was totally worth it.

NIGHT NIGHT.

FAIL.

Third of all:

Very sadly, on Sunday my guinea pig, Carrot, of four years (she would've been five on January 30th) passed away. She'd been suffering from water retention for a couple of weeks, so she proabably had liver or kidney failure. We'd taken her to the vet and gotten medication (although the outlook was bleak anyway) and she seemed to be improving a bit, but unfortunately on Sunday she looked really ill, and passed away in the evening. It was especially sad because she was a guinea pig I bred (I still have her mother), so I've known her whole life. RIP Carrot ♥

Fourth of all:

On Saturday, my parents are taking my friend D and I to London for the MCM Expo. It's in Canary Wharf, and we'll be staying over night, going to the Expo again on Sunday, and then going home. Although I don't seem it, I am crazy excited about this, mainly because I have never been to a convention before, and because the list of guests includes Tom Baker, Craig Charles, Angel Coulby and Katie McGrath. I can't really comprehend the fact that Angel Coulby and Katie McGrath will be there, at a Merlin panel, so I think I'll probably dance around and scream a little bit when it hits me properly. I've been trying to plan this for weeks, and little obstacles kept popping up, but finally, about a week ago it all got sorted. I love visiting London, and I've not been since August 2008, so YAY ME really.

That was all. I still feel incredibly guilty about how much of a sucky LJ friend I am, but on the plus side none of you guys have defriended me yet, so I am eternally grateful for that.

Peace out y'all.

    <lj:music>It Takes Two</lj:music>

I clearly suck at LJ.

I really have no proper excuses, except that you may notice that my posting stopped with my return to school, and I gotta tell ya: I have never had as much studying to do. In fact, today has been one of the first days in about a fortnight where I had no homework, so I took the chance to unwind and clear some tabs in my browser (of which there were many) and do some things on my to-do list.

Quite a lot has happened really, in a short space time, but it only feels like it has. Written down it seems insubstantial, so I won't go into detail. I suppose the most important long term thing is that I switched English Language/Literature to Further Maths as my fifth subject, which is quite a contrast. I finally got all my books today after waiting so long (there's 8 in total) and my bag is heavier than it's ever been. I don't have as much free time for video games and reading as I'd like, but I still manage to fit a fair bit of TV in.

I have been reading all your posts (but I've just been keeping quiet). Unfortunately I only get time for the internet just before I go to bed these days, so I'm often tired. I guess what I'm trying to say is: I'm always on LJ regularly, almost daily, even though I never post or comment, and I don't think I'll ever quit this journal. Everything about LJ means too much to me, even though I feel so guilty because I don't act like it.

Luckily, tomorrow is my college's open evening, so I get to leave at 12:15pm, which I am very thankful for. It feels like a miniature holiday, which I guess is just because I've had so much work recently. Although I do feel smarter, what with studying all sciences and maths! I can finally talk about things are too complicated to understand unless you've studied the subject.

To conclude: I'm not really sure of the purpose of this post, because I can't really ~be around~ more because my workload won't decrease. If anything, I'm sure it'll increase, but I guess I just wanted to confirm that I am alive and well; in actual fact, neverwinter'nudged' me via LJ messaging (which I didn't even know was a feature) and I decided to heed it. Thank you for pushing me into action bb :)

So, yea, thanks to all you guys because your posts still amuse me, and you all post such interesting things!

Oh, and things I've been enjoying lately: Merlin, Strictly Come Dancing, Peep Show, The Picture of Dorian Gray (the book, and Dorian Gray, the film)

Thank you all a lot for putting up with me ♥

    <lj:music>My Wife and Kids</lj:music>

I spent the today at the RSPCA and I am very tired. I had to walk too many dogs today, and it took the toll on my legs and feet. Anyway I have school tomorrow (no rest there), which is surprisingly okay. My lessons seem fine, so I just have to see how it goes.

I just went to have a look in the garden, and I noticed this odd looking bird by the pine tree at the back. The guinea-pigs were in the run outside, and Blossom (our rabbit) was just roaming around on the lawn. So I asked my mum what kind of bird she thought it was, and she started talking about it being a bird-of-prey, so I shouted "is it a kestrel?", and she said she thought so. We went out to have a look, and there it was, eating something. I started panicking a bit (because I was afraid it might be somehow eating one of our guniea-pigs) and ran over there. The kestrel flew away, leaving behind a pair of legs, lower spine, organs and wings of a pigeon. There were feathers everywhere. Safe to say, we're all quite worried now. The animals had to be put away, because now we're scared that that it's going to eat our pets! Damn bird! I feel all irrational. MY PETS ARE NOT FOOD. NOT FOR ANYONE. Blossom didn't even care that her natural predator was standing about 10 feet behind her, which isn't good for, y'know, not being eaten. She needs some lessons in how to be a rabbit. The kestrel might actually be a tamed bird from one of the bird centres in the area, so we may even have to call the police or the RSPCA or something. Gosh, life is never simple.

I was cleaning my room today and managed to break two vacuum cleaners in the process. What is that about? They both cut out in the middle of the job, which was annoying, and leads me to believe I may have freakish domestic cleaning equipment powers. Annnyway, today I finally braved photoshop and sorted out my holiday pics, so I present them to you now.

This is Swansea (in the south of Wales), at Mumbles, AKA, the Gower Peninsula. Left to right: the bungalow is where we stayed for the first week, the precarious way in which we parked the car at first (my Dad nearly drove it over that ledge), and stop signs that looked pretty :)

The Dylan Thomas Centre - stuff from an exhibition on The Edge of Love, a film about Dylan Thomas (a Welsh poet and author)'s life. The dress was worn by Keira Knightley in the film, the photo is of Cillian Murphy and Keira Knightley, and the rest are props used in the movie.

We went to Cardiff on my Dad's birthday, and this is, evidently, Cardiff Castle (which featured in a season two episode of The Sarah-Jane Adventures). The weird black face is an image of the devil, which is on the ceiling in one of the corridors (to the left of it is a golden ceiling in one of the rooms, which has a value of £20 million!)

This is all Cardiff bay, the Millenium Centre, the Water Tower, the old National Welsh Assembly, Mermaid Quay, Roald Dahl Plas, a carousel etc. And a weird white star on the floor O_o If you're a Doctor Who or Torchwood fan, you'll probably recognised the landmarks. This is the third consectutive year we've visited Cardiff, because it just doesn't get boring!

That is an adorable cat which came to our bungalow on two separate mornings, and stayed for ages, just to be fussed and patted. It was an awesome cat (who I took about fifty pictures of). And then, pictures of Swansea bay, and a red Welsh dragon in the foyer of the National Waterfront museum.

Left to right: A small land train on Swansea bay, the sea, the road down to Swansea city, with some pretty heather growing at the side, and the sea near our bungalow.

This is Slimbridge Wetlands Bird Sanctuary, which is a giant park thingy, with a lot of information boards about the many different types of bird that live there. All of these birds just look very sweet, but I sadly can't remember what breeds they all are.

Now we're onto our second week, which was at Brean, in Somerset (the southwest of England). This was my attempts at photographing the moon (yes that orange blur is the moon), but it was really far away, and I couldn't get my hands to keep still enough. Still, it made for pretty pictures.

This was the Bristol Balloon Festival (although we didn't stay to see the balloons being released for some reason), which was actually like a huge fair, with many tents and fairground rides. My brother and I went on that ride in the first picture (mainly because it was playing Michael Jackson music loudly and we sat on the grass and just listened to it happily, which a lot of people were doing actually, which was nice to see). They had a Pokemon tent there (which was the was the actual reason that we went to the festival), which was awesome. We even bought some trading cards (and I haven't played the Pokemon trading card game for about seven years!). Still, overwhelming nostalgia :D

These are all pictures from Brean beach, which was a literal two minute walk from our apartment, and was a private beach for the apartment park. It was honestly exhilarting to just run around on that beach, and we even got to swim in it one day when the weather was good enough.

These are of Weston-Super-Mare, which has a beach, and is in Somerset also. That's a huge sand sculpture exhibition (and the last picture is actually of the sun, although you can't tell because I took it in black and white).

All these cars are in Haynes Motor Museum (which is ran by the company who produce Hayne's motor manuals. I don't know if any of you have heard of them, but they were a permanent fixture of my childhood, thanks to my car-obsessed brother). The first car is a Mini cut in half, and there's also the Ghostbusters ambulance (complete with a little Pop'N'Fresh mascot), and in the middle of the bottom row is two go karts that belong to Princes William and Harry.

BRISTOL ZOO IS AWESOME Y'ALL. That's my assessment of it. Left to right: a red panda, some kind of monkey grabbing at food, penguins, some photographs of animals, seals (that lookes suspiciously like sea lions), an okapi, some capybara, a meerkat and finally a duck and her duckling.

You see, it's actually Bristol Zoo Gardens, so there were lots of flowers too (you can see a wasp flying away from the middle pink flower on the bottom row, if you look closely).

On the last day we went to Bath, which is also in Somerset. The firs picture is of this place that we parked near called the Royal Crescent. There is an almost identical shot (minus the people) in The Duchess, which is how I recognised that we were in Bath actually (there is a video of them filming there here). The middle row is from the Jane Austen Centre, which we weren't planning on going to until we came across it. My friend went to Jane Austen's house on her holiday, and this is like a sister museum, because Austen spent five years livng in Bath, and featured it in her novels. It was really interesting! The last pictures are of the Roman baths, which have been in the city since BC times. It's like a giant museum, and you can still see the actual baths, which is one of the only hot springs in the UK apparently. We stayed there 'til about 9pm, and I have rarely felt so tired.

The day after that we drove home, so that pretty much sums up my holiday. Phew, this has taken a long time to prepare and post (and I'm sure it's taken just as long to read, so congrats if you got this far :D).

Tomorrow Deborah and I are going stationery shopping (in my opinion, the best form of shopping) for the new term, and we are going to literally spend all day at it, and be very thorough. I'd better get some rest now, in preparation, so good night to you all, and I hope you are well!

Whew, so, there is a lot to catch up on. I got back from holiday on Saturday, but we had some big news as a family a few weeks ago, which explains my absences. I didn't really want to post about it until I knew what was happening, but we found out today, so I guess, here goes.

My Dad had been having back pain quite a lot, so he went to the doctor's, and they said one of the causes of such pain is prostate cancer. So he gots some tests done, and he was diagnosed with prostate cancer about a week before we went on holiday, and the hospital said it was the middle stages, and he could have had it for up to five years already, which is obviously harder to cure/treat. We had to come home halfway through the holiday so he could have some more scans done, before we went for our second week. Obviously, none of us really knew what to expect or prepare for, so it's been quite a difficult time. Plus, my grandad died of cancer when I was four years old, and it was quite vicious then, although I know different types of cancer behave differently in the body. But today, he and my mum went to the hospital to get the results and treatment plan. All morning my brother and I were just waiting at home, which was so horrible, especially because they got back much later than we expected.

Thankfully, they sat down and told us that the cancer hasn't spread to my dad's bones or lymph nodes, and is only just starting to spread through the prostrate. So it's very treatable, and there is an 80% chance that he will be completely cured, and if not it can be held off for years. We're all so relieved, and now that I know what's happening it's like an incredible weight has been lifted off my shoulders. And the other problems in my life (you know, the kind that everyone has sort of generally) seem so trivial. It really puts it into perspective for you. Anyway, it feels cathartic to finally be able to post about it, and I sincerely have missed all of you.

So, thanks for listening, and sort of being here for me to talk at. It's really appreciated. My hiatus is now over, and I hope to share my holiday photos soon.

Thank you all.

    <lj:music>BET Awards MJ Tribute</lj:music>

This week has felt hectic, even though I doubt it actually was. I've been preparing stuff for my brother's birthday, which is difficult because I have a tendency to do it in a ~special~ way, and must outdo myself every year. But I think I've outdone myself this year, but what about next year? What then? It's all very difficult, but I love it really.

Anyway, on Friday, we finally, finally, bought our new car. This process has been in the works for around a month (I was so annoyed that my mum, dad and brother chose a car without me (thank you, revision), because, it's a CAR. A CAR. But, anyway, I like their choice, so it's okay). It was ordered from Belgium, I think, and we picked it up just now. All thanks to the government's scrappage scheme, although it meant that our old car (a Ford Escort from 1994) had to be scrapped ;__; There are pictures of my brother and I as a little kids with that car, so it was sad.

But, anyway, my Dad's new car is a Ford Focus from 2009, and its so pretty, not to mind kind of fierce looking. We've never had a new car before, and I've been looking around car show rooms since I was about 7, so you could say it was overdue. My Dad paid for it outright, with a cheque. I've never seen anybody pay for a car with a cheque, but I'm not complaining. It has so many features, but most of all, it is comfortable and lovely to be inside.

Thus, a picture is mandatory at this stage:

That's pretty much all I have to say, but we are going to Skegness tomorrow for my brother's birthday. It's annoying, because now I'll never be able to say that I've never been to Skegness. I don't really hear good things about it as a place, tbh.

OH, AND TORCHWOOD. TORCHWOOD. Well, it was explosive, excellent, unexpected and confusing. But I loved it.

But today has been a day of internet catch-up, which is pretty much how my life operates right now, but you know what? I'm good with that.

    <lj:music>Dangerous (the album) - Michael Jackson</lj:music>

It's official! This is the 200th post I have posted, and it has taken me just over 2 years to reach; I wonder whether around 100 posts a year is average on LJ? Anyway, this calls for a smal celebration, which will be me posting the photographs from the photo meme I posted the other day (techinally, I would've posted those anyway, so it's not a real celebration, but we shall overlook that).

For lovingthecubs, a picture of your room/desk (as you can see, I did not tidy up before taking this picture, lol):

(That's a whiteboard hanging above the desk, if you're wondering)

And now, poitnless but nevertheless somehow necessary close-ups:

(I just like this one tbh)

For dreaamer, favourite t-shirt:

My Batman logo tee, which I got for my birthday last year. I love it so much, so this was a surprisingly easy one.

For lovingthecubs and dreaamer, Doctor Who merchandise:

My epic shelf of DVDs, CDS, Who books and Who books, as well as some other stuff. My other books cannot fit onto a shelf, because they almost broke it. I'm not sure whether that's good or bad. I prefer to see it as good :D

My big Dalek (named Herman, for no apparent reason) which I got as a gift from my aunt and uncle. He's remote and voice controlled and takes up a lot space in my room. The converse is there for size comparison btw.

For ninjoo, items, people, animals etc in your house or neighbourhood that remind you of the HHGTTG (that's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, for those not in the know):

Petunias, because of the bowl of petunias falling onto the surface of an alien planet, due to the Improbability Drive of the ship (the Heart of Gold) transforming two oncoming missiles into a sperm whale and said bowl of petunias. Because that made a heap of sense. Behold the appropriate quote:

Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again. Many people have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that we would know a lot more about the nature of the universe than we do now.

A towel, for obvious, obvious reasons. It is necessary for travel through the galaxy.

A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-boggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.

A dolphin postcard, because it reminds of the opening song of the movie, and the title of the fourth book: So long and thanks for all the fish. See the Youtube video for the hilarity. The postcard itself is shiny and textured all kinds of magnificence. I've had it since I was about 7 :D

My rabbit, Blossom, who occasionally reminds of Marvin, the Paranoid Android (who is apparently afflicted with severe depression and boredom), because she has a general look of disdain and emotionless-ness about her, and always has. She seems kind of discontent, not because she's being looked after poorly, just because that seems to be her nature (much like Marvin). My other pets do not behave like this, so Blossom is regarded as being a little misunderstood. But she's still healthy and generally fine, just different. She is adorable in her sulkiness though ♥
So, that took longer than I naively assumed, but a fitting 200th post I think.

Anyone see Torchwood? ;D I loved it and am appropriately intrigued. Lots of revelations, as well as new questions, and it looks like it's going somewhere good. And we get to enjoy it every night!

But my bed beckons now, so I bid you all adieu :)

    <lj:music>Will You Be There - Michael Jackson</lj:music>

So apparently I suck at updating even when I'm on summer break and technically have nothing to do. But it seems that there's always something taking up my time, and I end up not knowing where it all goes. Although I do feel a lot more relaxed than I did a month ago, so that's a plus, right?

Also, I have nothing to update with. I'm doing stuff, but it's not of sufficient interest to post, although my '1' (aka '!') key is horribly broken/sticking/half hanging off my laptop, so that's something I have to deal with everyday. It's not even a real problem, but it feels somehow, ridiculously noteworthy.

I have been spending a lot of time lately looking at old photos, mainly late '80s to early '00s, of the family and stuff. It's cute, and, as always a little sad. And I found some old VHS tapes, both home movies, and stuff recorded off the TV, and bought. It was so '90s, I loved it. Although I'm convined I must have been annoying as a little kid, upon reflection, but IT'S STILL GOOD.

And to motivate me to update, I have a meme I did last March that I thought was interesting; so I've dragged it out of the woodwork to repost here.

Ask me to take pictures of any aspect of my life that you're interested in or curious about. It can be anything from my favorite possession to my anything else. Leave your requests as a comment to this entry, I'll snap the pictures and post them in the next post.

Now for an evening of epic and lengthy internet reading.

PEACE OUT :D

My parents loved his music, so as a child it was what I listened to the most, and came to love myself. He was certainly unique, and, as I think the public have shown these past few days, he will be sorely missed.
(Picture from MJJPictures.com)

Anyway, I have a meme that I was supposed to do a few days ago, but I got kind of sidetracked by everything. This is fromlovingthecubs.

1. What would you like to be "when you grow up"?
I have always wanted to be a vet since I was a little child, and although I did have brief thoughts about writing and illustrating when I was about 10, becoming a veterinary surgeon is still my aim. I guess I've always wanted to be able to answer when people ask me what I wanted to be when I was little that I actually did become it. I still have a year before applying to universities, but I'm still currently on that track (hence my work experience at a vets' practice last year).

2. If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I'm not really the kind of person who likes travelling to different countries (I've only been abroad once, to Disneyland Paris), but I think I'd like to visit Nigeria mainly because I've got lots of relatives there I've never met.

3. Favourite episode(s) of Doctor Who?
This is really tricky, but I'm gonna say The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances, The Girl in the Fireplace, Doomsday (despite how it makes me cry every time I watch it) and Midnight (which I love because of how weird and sinister it was). Oh, and pretty much the whole Master story line episodes of S3. There's so many others, but if I list them all I'll end up mentioning all of them, and that kind of defeats the point of "favourites.

4. What movies or songs do you watch/listen to when you need a "pick me up"?
Erm, I don't really have any movies that I watch to cheer me up (although I guess anything from Disney would work successfully), and music tends to leave me more emotional than before, even if it's happy. Although Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by The Beatles are songs that are really nostalgic for me, and they are comforting to hear.

5. Have you been to any concerts? And who would you love to see at a live venue?
This I can answer clearly: yes. Kaiser Chiefs in 2007, again in 2008, and Elbow in 2008 also. All great experiences! I would love to see KC again, and also Keane and Franz Ferdinand are up there on the list, because I've loved their music for so long. If they'd only tour at venues that I could get to!

And now its time for Top Gear. Bon Voyage.

After each subject was done I moved its books and folders to the bottom of the pile, and now, finally, every single subject has past. Theoretically, I should know all of that stuff, but I'm sure I have forgotten about 80% of it. Yay, the education system works.

I had my last exam today, which was the same day that brother got his exam results (ironic, in some kind of way). He got a Class II division I, which is under a Class I (the highest grade you can get). So I think it equates to a B, and he is really happy with it, because he completely thought he was going to fail and wouldn't be going back next year.

So, to celebrate in a weird way, I'm going to post a picspam of a botannical gardens I visited on Sunday. Weird, but it makes me happy.

The gardens was on Bateman Street. <lj:music>Silence (it's becoming a trend...)</lj:music>

I am one day late with my return from the estranged world of non-internet, but I am back regardless. I AM JOYOUS, AND THIS TIME I AM BACK PROPERLY (it's not a hoax or anything).

I still have one exam left on Thursday, but I'm not too worried about that one, so that's why I decided to return early. The freedom is shocking and wonderful. I've never done this many exams before, and although I have developed a large (and disturbingly permanent looking) blister on my little finger on my right hand and had a lot of pain in my right arm, I think it was worth it. But we shall see on results day.

Anyway, onto slightly more interesting things! But they shall be in list form because I foolishly posted so late:

- I saw Terminator Salvation yesterday, which I really enjoyed. Mainly because seeing Christian Bale and Anton Yelchin on the big screen is obviously a bonus.

- I started reading American Pyscho yesterday, and almost couldn't put it down. I've read the first 44 pages, and it seems very like the film (in tone, style and characterisation, not in plot, which is a little different so far).

- And now I've just remembered that I have nothing of interest more to say because I've been cooped up at home for the past month, and that my posts have been exceedingly boring. I pledge to rectify this problem by doing more interesting things.

- But, I have missed all of you so much, and I can't wait to catch up with you again. I know I seem to say that an awful lot of late, but this time it will be happening.

Now I shall make a very poor start by going straight to bed, but never fear, I shall return tomorrow, and make sure I stay up very late obsessing over my flist. Good night. I'll be back (couldn't help myself, and I apologise sincerely).

Many apologies (believe me, I can't wait to be done with all my hiatuses).

I had to post today however, because it is officially now two years I have been on livejournal, so it is this journal's 2nd birthday! Congratulations to myself! You just have to imagine there's party poppers, balloons and confetti everywhere. It feels like much longer since I first joined LJ, and (not to sound absurdly dramatic) it has literally changed my life. So I just want to take this opportunity to thank you all for being on LJ, I suppose, even though I am doing a shoddy job at showing it lately. Again, sincere apologies.

Little news before I go:

My brother has finished his exams now, and came home yesterday! He'll be back and forth a lot now between university and home until his official end of term (13th June). It's nice to have him at home again though.

I saw Star Trek on Tuesday, with some friends. It was incredible and way better than I had anticipated. So I went to see it again on Thursday, with family, and if possible loved it even more the second time around. I don't think I can adequately express how much I enjoyed it, but I can safely say that after my exams I will be obsessing nicely over it.

On Tuesday I got two new posters: Flight of the Conchords and Star Trek, so my room looks quite different now. They have replaced my Joker and Batman ones, which are now residing in my hallway.

That is all, and I hope you guys have a brilliant next few weeks.
I WILL BE BACK (OFFICIALLY) ON FRIDAY 12TH JUNE.

Oh my god, I have missed you all so much, and after a quick scan of my flist, I can see I've missed a loooot of posts too! I hope you're all good and okay, and hopefully I will manage to re-acquaint myself with all of you in my week of freedom before I have to re-hiate (is that a real verb? I don't think so).

That picture is of a beautiful plant in my garden (I don't know what specifically) that had flowered, and I didn't even know because I've been holed up in room everyday revising, so it was quite a shock to see it this morning. So the picture will serve as a reminder of what I miss while I work, and what I have to look forward after my exams are over.

So, I had my last exam of this half-term on Thursday, so I have done seven exams so far, which is exactly half! Next half-term is only four days (from Monday 1st June to Thursday 4th), then I have exam leave, and my exams finish on June 18th. I've hardly been on my laptop this past couple of weeks, except to google something I wasn't sure about in my revision, so it's been really weird. I've got 52 emails in my inbox, and I don't really want to face that, so denial seems like a good option right now.

I've still got lots of work to do this week for my upcoming exams, but at least it's a week off, so I'm extremely happy! My brother did his first exam yesterday, and has three more at the start of the week, and he is still maintaining that he is going to fail, so I'm really hoping he isn't. But he'll be coming home later in the week, so that's more things to look forward to.

And, last thing:
FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS > THE WORLD.
That is incredibly true, and I desperately need some icons so that I may prove it to all.

I now realise that there is very little chance of that happening, so out of courtesy I call a semi-hiatus, because whilst I definitely won't be posting, I may still be around. I have seven exams between now and the 21st, and then I have a week off. But then I have seven more exams between 1st of June and the 18th, so I'll have to recall the hiatus then. Yes, it's awfully complicated and very dull, but there we go.

Anyway, hope you guys have awesome summers whilst I'm away, and then I'll be back for ten whole weeks with nothing to do all summer. <lj:music>(Surprisingly) silence</lj:music>

My first exam is in exactly two weeks. Slight panic mode is being entered right now, but I still don't feel the need to call a hiatus yet, so that's a bonus!

My life is currently: wake up (tired), drink a lot of coffee, spend six hours in revision classes, come home and drink a lot of coffee, study, eat dinner, study, talk to brother on webcam, study, watch TV, drink a lot of coffee, go on the internet (whilst drinking coffee) and then sleep. It's surprisingly okay, although I have noticed a distinct lack of coffee in my schedule.

My brother gets his finals results on the day of my last exam, which is weird because results are usually kept until August. It's scarily efficient, because he'll know by June 18th whether he passed this year, or needs to repeat it, or won't be going back at all. Worrying.

On Saturday I plan to actually leave the house (shocking!) and see X-Men Origins: Wolverine with a bunch of people, most of which I have never socialised with outside of lessons. And I haven't even seen any of the other X-Men films which I always meant to get round to doing, but somehow never did, so I hope knowledge from those isn't essential to enjoy this one.

The BBC's Friday line-up is mostly back, with Have I Got News For You and Reggie Perrin. I saw both of them, and although the former is always hilarious, I actually enjoyed the latter as well.

Sorry for the jarring nature of this post: apparently I don't have time to use connectives and transitional sentences anymore, but I'm sure it's still coherent.

A good night's sleep to you all!

    <lj:music>Happiness - Goldfrapp; Happiness is a warm gun - The Beatles</lj:music>

The final day of my eight day meme, courteousy of alkhoon:

Eighth day: Thursday 23rd

What made me happy today, and simultaneously sad, was finishing The Duchess by Amanda Foreman, which I have been reading since, if I am correct, the 13th of February. It was long book, and because I was busy and reading other books at the same time, it has taken me two months and ten days to finish. But I have, and it was wonderful! I think I enjoyed it even more than the film (which I really enjoyed), and I even cried at end, as I did watching the film. When did I become this person who cries at so many books and films? There used to be a really, really short list of films that made me cry, and now! It's huge! With books on it as well! But, this still counts as a happy thing, because I'm always ultimately happy when something like that makes me cry, because it means it's emotional and will probably be added to my favourites list. So The Duchess is a new favourite!

And to make this official, another meme; this time courteousy of lovingthecubs:

- X what you've seen
- O what you haven't finished/saw sizable portions
- Bold what you loved
- Strikeout what you disliked/hated
- Leave unchanged what you haven't seen

I must just say that had forgotten a lot of these, and did some googling, but I think what I've specified is accurate.
